How to prepare for your organizing session
We know inviting an organizer into your home can feel exciting—and a little overwhelming. This page is your starting point. Our preparation guides are designed to set clear expectations, reduce stress, and help you get the most value from your organizing session.
Whether we’re working in your kitchen, closet, garage, or office, a successful session depends on shared understanding, real-time decisions, and realistic expectations. These guides walk you through exactly how to prepare so we can focus on creating functional systems that work for your life.
Please review the information below before your session, and then refer to the space-specific prep guides that apply to your project.
How to Prepare Before We Arrive
1. Be Available for Decisions
Please plan to be available (in person or by phone/text) to make real‑time decisions about:
What to keep, donate, or discard
How you use the space
Product preferences and functionality
If you won’t be available, let us know ahead of time so we can adjust expectations.
2. Pre-Organizing is not necessary
We don’t need the space to be tidy—just accessible.
Avoid pre‑sorting, making piles, or editing items unless specifically discussed.
We want to see the space as it’s actually being used so we can design realistic systems.
3. Clear Access to the Space
Empty floors, counters, or shelves only if discussed in advance.
Ensure walkways are clear and surfaces are usable.
Identify where donations, trash, and recycling can be staged.
4. Plan for Kids, Pets & Distractions
Arrange childcare if possible.
Secure pets in another room or area.
Silence notifications or block work calls when you are editing with the team—focus helps decisions go faster.
